High-profile press coverage for a local issue

German city centers have changed noticeably in recent years. Business closures in premium locations have been increasing, and not just since the beginning of the Corona pandemic. The Corona crisis has accelerated the process that is taking place, as recent examples from Munich (business closures of Kaut-Bullinger and Obletter) show. In addition to the retail sector, however, cultural players such as our client, the Dance School at the German Theater (DT01), are also affected by changing conditions in Munich’s city center.

Achim von Michel, managing director of WORDUP PR, had invited to this topic in his function as press spokesman and regional representative for politics in Bavaria of the Bundesverband mittelständische Wirtschaft (BVMW) in February at the Presseclub München e.V.. Munich’s second mayor Katrin Habenschaden, the director of the Rid Foundation Michaela Pichlbauer, the managing director of CityPartner Munich Wolfgang Fischer as well as our client Oliver Fleidl, managing director of the dance school DT01, dealt with the question “Is Munich’s city center becoming desolate?”.

The topic of the press conference clearly struck a nerve: All the leading regional media reported – in some cases also in their print editions – on the positions of the panel representatives. In addition to Süddeutsche Zeitung, Bild München and Bayerischer Rundfunk, Münchener Merkur, TZ, Abendzeitung München, Bayerische Staatszeitung and München.TV also published articles, some of which ran extensively.

Especially the contact to the Munich city administration offered an excellent opportunity for our client to draw attention to the urgent search for a permanent dance school quarter within the Isar metropolis. The dance school DT01, founded in 1949 and with more than 500 dance courses per year and 15 partly highly specialized dance teachers, belongs to the big dance schools in Germany. As a matter of fact, it is the only dance school in Munich that is recommended by the European Foundation for Dancing.
