The collecting society VG WORT was founded in February 1958. It is an association with legal capacity by virtue of lending, in which authors and publishers have joined forces for the joint exploitation of copyrights.
The purpose of the non-profit association is to administer the rights of use and claims to remuneration of its members and beneficiaries entrusted to it by contract. This means, among other things, ensuring that authors and publishers receive appropriate remuneration and collecting money from those who use the intellectual property of others. The money collected from numerous sources is then passed on to authors and publishers according to fixed distribution plans.
Like all collecting societies, VG WORT is under the state supervision of the German Patent and Trademark Office.
WORDUP PR has advised the VG WORT collecting society for a period of eight years. The highlight was the campaign “Yes to private copying” in the context of the amendment of the copyright law in the early 2000s. However, the agency was also responsible for newsletter projects, events and the preparation of the annual report. In addition to VG Wort, WORDUP PR has advised a number of other organizations and associations on internal and external communications, including the Gesellschaft für musikalische Aufführungs- und mechanische Vervielfältigungsrechte (GEMA), the Fachverband Besser Heizen e.V. and, since 2007, the Bundesverband mittelständische Wirtschaft e.V. (BVMW).
